School of Arts student took on major responsibility during “War on COVID-19 Pandemic”

Since January 25, in the face of the increasingly complex fight against COVID-19, Zhou Linxuan, an undergraduate dance performance student at the School of Arts, has been putting into practice the significant work to take on the battle against the epidemic and shoulder the responsibility of prevention and control, fully demonstrating the spirit of mission and dedication of a CQU student of the times.

Volunteering for local prevention and control of COVID-19

On January 25, Huaying City launched a Class I public health emergency response. “Blooming moss is small as rice, Still in prime as peony nice.” On January 26 (the second day of the Lunar New Year), in the face of the sudden epidemic, Zhou Linxuan decided to give up the opportunity to reunite with her family during the Spring Festival and took the initiative to sign up for the volunteer team for the prevention and control of the epidemic in Huaying. She said when she signed up, “I feel very honored and proud to be able to join the volunteer team for the prevention and control of the epidemic in my hometown as a member of the Communist Youth League. I will follow the official arrangements, work at the best of my ability, and hope to use my own practice as an example to call on more people to join the volunteers for and contribute to the prevention and control of the epidemic in our hometown.”

Fear no danger, Shun no labor! A frontline epidemic prevention volunteer in action

“Auntie, take your child home quickly. Don’t go out during the prevention and control of the epidemic. You are not wearing masks. It is easy to get infected.” “Please let us know if there is any discomfort during the self-quarantine after coming back from work outside Huaying. This is a responsibility not only for yourself but also for your family and society”. We can find many other examples of Zhou Linxuan working as a volunteer ……

After joining the volunteer team, she worked outdoors for more than 10 hours a day in the bitterly cold wind. Her duties included promoting information on epidemic prevention and control, persuading people from going out of self-quarantine, testing people entering and leaving the community housing quarters, registering people returning home and distributing supplies to people in quarantine. So far, Zhou Linxuan has distributed and posted more than 1,300 epidemic prevention and control posters and promotional instructions, advised 68 people who went out without putting on masks, investigated and documented 233 people who returned from work from outside of Huaying.

Dare to fight, ready to take responsibility; Pass on positive energy through professional skills

In the midst of the epidemic, we have blocked the virus but not love and friendship. When Linxuan learned that there was a family living in self-quarantine in her neighbourhood, she took the initiative to contact the family to buy and distribute necessary everyday items and school supplies for them. With expertise in dance performance, she made videos of basic classes for the children, which was highly appreciated by the family. When assisting the community to promote prevention and control measures, she understood the importance of getting everyone in the community involved. Therefore, she always rushed to the forefront of the team with a loudspeaker and stacks of materials, and made sure these instructions were handed out to all the residents, especially the seniors, so they could be fully aware of the importance of self-quarantine, and other prevention and control measures. She also assisted property companies to register and document people and vehicles and took body temperatures of people entering and exiting the property for registration. When people were not cooperative, misunderstanding and even verbally abusing her, she always replied with smile and patience. Such attitude and actions eventually won her much praise and support from the majority of the people in the community ......

The inherent difficulty of such undertakings entails extraordinary courage, and only persistent efforts befit this commendable cause. In this war without smoke, Zhou Linxuan worked at ordinary positions as a volunteer together with other community workers with dedication, perseverance, and hard work that perfectly demonstrated the courage and laudable stamina in students of CQU in the new era. It is the best example set for the majority of young people to protect people's health and safety and contribute to such noble causes in our hometowns.
