The School of Arts at Chongqing University boasts a strong faculty, complete teaching facilities, and a scientific system of teaching management and evaluation. It has become a cradle for cultivating high-level creative talents in painting and design, as well as advanced performing artists in music and dance. History
The School of Arts at Chongqing University was established in 1998. Over the past 25 years, leveraging the disciplinary advantages of Chongqing University as a top-tier "Double First-Class" institution, excellent educational facilities, and a beautiful campus environment, the school has become a cradle for cultivating high-level creative talents in painting and design, as well as advanced performing artists in music and dance. It boasts 40 faculty members with senior titles, accounting for 46.9% of the total teaching staff, including several nationally renowned professors and scholars who have returned from studying abroad. The programs in Dance Performance and Painting have been recognized as National First-Class Undergraduate Programs, while Product Design, Dance Performance, Environmental Design, and Painting are identified as First-Class Undergraduate Programs by the Chongqing municipal government (under the Ministry of Education's "Double Ten Thousand Plan").
Majors
The School of Arts offers undergraduate programs in the following areas: Design, including Environmental Design, Product Design, and Visual Communication Design; Fine Arts, including Painting, Music Performance, and Dance Performance. It also grants master's degrees in two primary disciplines: Arts and Design, as well as professional master's degrees in Design, Fine Arts and Calligraphy.
Design
Design majors include environmental design, product design and visual communication design, and implement large-scale enrollment and training. The first grade is trained according to major categories, and from the second grade, training will be carried out according to professional diversion.
Environmental Design

Environmental Design is deeply rooted in the regional culture of Southwest China, promoting urban and rural space design, and realizing innovation in Chinese spatial theory and practice. It integrates architecture, planning, landscape, exhibition space design, and artistic innovation. The curriculum advocates an international perspective, cultural heritage preservation, and interdisciplinary integration. It aims to cultivate leading and versatile talents in environmental design with a broad knowledge base, strong innovative spirit, wide expandability, and balanced theoretical and practical skills.
Product Design
First-class Undergraduate Program in Chongqing

Product Design trains professionals who can integrate existing science and technology, production processes, materials, aesthetics, culture, and economics to develop new products. At the same time, it also cultivates composite design talents with design abilities in product promotion, product packaging, corporate image, display design, and other aspects.
Visual Communication Design

Visual Communication Design emphasizes the intersection of design studies, art studies, and digital design and art communication. It focuses on presenting information through five-dimensional visual media. The core teaching areas include "Cultural Creative Design," "Digital Art Design," and "Art and Communication." The program adheres to the concept of cultivating complex and innovative modern design talents with a solid foundation, broad scope, high quality, and emphasis on innovation, forming a development model that inherits and innovates, crosses boundaries, and fosters collaborative innovation.
Painting
National First-class Undergraduate Program
The Painting major cultivates comprehensive art talents with traditional Chinese cultural literacy, modern artistic concepts, comprehensive theoretical knowledge, and basic painting skills. Graduates are equipped to engage in Chinese painting, oil painting, and related artistic creation, art education, and research activities, meeting the needs of social and cultural development.
Dance Performance

The major of dance performance aims to cultivate advanced applied compound talents with strong cultural innovation consciousness and critical thinking ability, international vision, competence in dance performance, dance creation and dance culture communication, based on the southwest, serving the country and facing the world.
Music Performance
The Music Performance major trains advanced specialists with a rich system of music theory, strong performance skills, and good humanistic qualities. These graduates have a wide range of adaptability, comprehensive abilities, vitality, and can perform, teach, research, and organize various musical activities in professional art troupes, art colleges, art research institutions, cultural agencies, and social art organizations.
International Exchanges
Adhering to an open and inclusive educational philosophy, the School of Arts of Chongqing University is committed to building a broad platform for international art exchanges. Through various international cooperation projects such as student exchange, teacher exchange, platform construction, and artist workshops, it provides rich learning resources and international exchange opportunities for teachers and students, promoting global dialogue and cultural exchange and mutual learning in art education.
School of Arts has established friendly cooperative relationships with many well-known universities and art groups overseas, providing diverse opportunities for overseas learning and exchange for faculty and students, such as The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong Youth Orchestra, Chiba University, ÉCOLE INTUIT.LAB and Académie Charpentier.
Currently, the school is enrolling international students for Master's degrees in Art Studies, Design, Fine Arts and Calligraphy, as well as Bachelor's degrees in Painting, Product Design, Environmental Design, Visual Communication Design, Dance Performance, and Music Performance.
The school has trained nearly 20 international students from countries and regions along the Belt and Road Initiative, such as Russia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, etc.
Employment Status
The employment destinations of undergraduate graduates from the School of Arts demonstrate a diversified distribution, aligning with the school's program offerings, disciplinary development characteristics, and talent cultivation objectives. Graduates have been recruited by Fortune 500 companies such as Changan Automobile Co., Ltd., China's top 500 companies like BYD Company Limited, and central enterprises such as China Construction Railway Investment & Construction Group Co., Ltd.
