Central Laboratory of the School of Arts

The Central Laboratory of the School of Arts of Chongqing University was founded in 1998. It was set up to facilitate experiments for product design, environmental art design, visual communication, and painting. It also provides support for creative experiments for ceramic design and production, landscape sculpture, model production, printing design, packaging design, commercial photography, among other courses.

There are seven independent laboratories set up for pottery making, modelling, zhuangbiao (framing), packaging, printmaking, photography and virtual simulation. It covers an area of nearly 900 square meters with over 1,500 sets of instruments and equipment. The total value is around 5 million yuan.

In addition to basic teaching, the Central Laboratory also facilitates student activities, school-enterprise cooperation, competitions and graduation projects to improve utilization rate of space and equipment. The Pottery Club, among such organizations, was founded with the support of the Pottery Lab, and approved by the University as a base for the popularization of science.

The diversified techniques for production prepared by the Central Laboratory have facilitated students in their creative practice and improved innovative skills, making it possible to transfer creative ideas into real products for commercialization.
