The Industrial Design team of the Department of Design won the iF 2021 Design Award

On April 13, 2021, the German iF Design Award results were announced, and the interdisciplinary innovative design team of industrial design led by Associate Professor Xia Jinjin of the Department of Design won the iF 2021 Design Award.

Founded in 1953, the iF DESIGN AWARD is an independent and globally recognized design award regularly held by the IF Industrie Forum Design, Germany's oldest industrial design institution. The iF International Design Forum selects the iF Design Award every year. It is known for its “independent, rigorous and reliable” concept to enhance public awareness of design.

After iF's independent review given by a panel of international experts, “PPE removal assistance system”, the work of the interdisciplinary innovative team of industrial design of the Department of Design, won the recognition of 98 international judges and won the iF Design Award.

The PPE removal assistance system is a personal protective equipment removal assistance service system designed by the interdisciplinary and innovative team of industrial design for epidemic protection. It is jointly designed with the Department of Infectious Diseases of the First Affiliated Hospital of the Army Military Medical University (Southwest Hospital) for the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) caregivers and the critical work for epidemic PPE protection. Through product design, interactive design, user experience design, service design, among others, perfect service and use systems have been built to protect medical personnel. Team members felt for and understood the pain points of medical care in the era of the epidemic and were dedicated to solving related problems with design products. The design concept of “medical care --- caring for health professionals” gives warmth to the angels fighting on the front line of the war against the epidemic.

The interdisciplinary innovation team of industrial design received strong support from the School of Arts, the Academic Affairs Office and the Students' Innovation Practice Center in the design and research process over a year and a half. The team worked closely with the CQU Hospital and Southwest Hospital to repeatedly conduct design experiments and iterate design results. The design has now been delivered for production and use.

The iF 2021 Design Award is a test of the interdisciplinary joint design research results of the Department of Design of the School of Arts in Chongqing University’s vigorous development of double first-class university and disciplines construction, as well as the integration of arts, science and technology, and has evident positive significance for promoting the development of first-class majors at the provincial and ministerial levels of product design and the construction of new liberal arts at Chongqing University.
