On the evening of January 3, 2019, the “Special performance of Excerpts by Chongqing University Sichuan Opera Workshop” was successfully concluded in the Small Theatre of Huxi Campus Activity Center. The performance was organized by the Sichuan Opera Workshop (School of Arts), which is the functional unit at Chongqing University for the inheritance of cultural heritage under the Ministry of Education. The performance aimed to promote Sichuan Opera among students and teachers for the discovery of its beauty in order to attract the general public to inherit and protect the heritage of Sichuan Opera. The evening was a great success with an engaging audience and well organized program.

Sichuan opera is the most representative cultural art treasure in the traditional Bashu culture. With the support from the leadership of the School of Arts, teachers and students of the workshop used their spare time to take training courses with professional artists from the Sichuan Opera Troupe, starting from the fundamentals to more advanced singing, acting, costume preparation, and makeups, among other skills to gradually understand and discovering the beauty of Sichuan opera.

The performance included four classical traditional excerpts of different types, namely “Gong Hui (Palace Meeting)”, “Kao Hong (Interrogating the Maid)”, “Er Jin Gong (Enter the Palace for the Second Time)” and “Hua Yun She Diao (Hua Yun Shooting Eagle)”. It was a wonderful event demonstrating the beauty of Sichuan opera, in particular the singing, performance, acrobatics, costumes and makeups ...... The performance was a great opportunity to promote international cultural exchange, and not only received enthusiastic responses from students and teachers of CQU, but also attracting high praise from foreign audiences.
