On July 26, at the 33rd National Book Trade Expo held at the Chongqing International Expo Center, the picture book The First Green Leaf on the Moon held its new book launch ceremony. The book was co-authored by Xie Gengxin, Professor of the Ministry of Education's Joint Research Center for Deep Space Exploration (Chongqing University) and Chief Designer of the Biological Science Payload for the Chang'e-4 Lunar Mission, and Associate Professor Xia Qing, Deputy Director of the Metaverse Research Center at the School of Arts, Chongqing University, with illustrations by Xia Qing. It was published by Hunan University Press.
At the new book release ceremony, Academician Yu Dengyun, Chief Designer of China's Lunar Exploration Program (Phase IV), and Huang Hai, Deputy Director of the Hunan Provincial People's Government Information Office, jointly unveiled the new book. Xie Gengxin, Xia Qing, relevant responsible comrades from the Hunan Provincial Committee Publicity Department and the Hunan Provincial Press and Publication Administration, as well as guests from the publishing, education, and design sectors, and young readers, together witnessed the debut of this interdisciplinary achievement in Art and Deep Space.

The First Green Leaf on the Moon employs characters such as the Yutu scientist and biological elves, using an illustrated cartoon picture book format to transform complex scientific knowledge into accessible language. It vividly explains to children the story of the biological experiment conducted by the Chang'e-4 probe's biological science payload. That cotton sprout, the first to break through the soil on the far side of the Moon, is not merely a miracle of life but also a vivid footnote to the glorious journey of China's lunar exploration program. It stands as a living embodiment of the lunar exploration spirit and the dedication of scientists.
A relevant official from the Publicity Department of the Hunan Provincial Committee stated in the address that it is an unwavering responsibility for publishing professionals to provide young readers with high-quality and exquisitely crafted popular science books. The First Green Leaf on the Moon represents an innovation in science communication, employing vivid language and exquisite illustrations to transform the complex technologies of deep space exploration into tangible stars at teenagers' fingertips. This bridges the gap between technology and young people, offering a vibrant medium for children to experience the allure of scientific exploration and gain the courage to explore the unknown.

This launch event not only showcased innovative science communication but also exemplified the remarkable outcomes of interdisciplinary collaboration between art and science. Through the partnership between artists and scientists, this picture book successfully translates scientific knowledge of deep space exploration into content accessible to young audiences, while also highlighting the vast potential and unique charm of art in popularizing science. The integration of art and science has transformed dry research achievements into engaging and interesting material, greatly stimulating teenagers' interest and enthusiasm for scientific exploration.
