Congratulations | Team from Department of Design of School of Arts Won Two 2024 Red Dot Design Awards

The German Red Dot Design Concept Award Ceremony was held in the Capitol Theatre of Singapore on October 10th, 2024. The team of teachers and students from the Department of Design, School of Arts, Chongqing University, won two Red Dot Design Concept Awards in 2024. Associate Professor Peng Kexing and her winning team were invited to attend the award ceremony in Singapore, and then went to the Red Dot Award Design Museum in Singapore to receive the award, and exchanged ideas with top designers from all over the world.

The Red Dot Award, which originated in Germany in 1955 and was founded by the German Design Association, is one of the largest design competitions in the world. It is known as the Oscar in the design field, attracting more than 60 countries and 10,000 entries every year. The selection method faithfully follows the concept of "in search of good design and innovation", and all the entries are examined by the Red Dot jury. Only the products with excellent design quality can be affirmed by the jury and awarded the Red Dot Award. The final winners of the 2024 German Red Dot Award were announced on June 24th, and an award ceremony was held in Singapore on October 10th.

The team has won the Red Dot Design Award for the following works:

Award-winning work 1: Huang Huacheng-Song Dynamic Cultural Heritage Tourism Service Design (by Peng Kexing, Zhai Jingyu, Tao Xiaohui, Du Mengyun and Peng Zirui), which won the Red Dot Design Concept: Services Design. On the basis of previous relevant design practice, this award-winning work has been optimized and iterated. Through services design, it explores and solves the demand pain points between cultural relics protection, cultural heritage goals and tourists' attractiveness in the development of cultural tourism in historical and cultural sites, and promotes the interactive experience of users' participation by gamification, so as to realize the positive role of historical and cultural learning.

Award-winning work 2: SurgeEase solo Operation System (by Peng Kexing, Li Linxia, Zhang Rongyu, Feng Kang and Tang Bo), which won the Red Dot Design Concept: Medical Product Design. This award-winning work is the third phase of the joint innovation research and development project of the interdisciplinary joint innovation practice team of Industrial Design of Chongqing University and the expert team of Tang Bo, vice president of the University Town Hospital affiliated to Chongqing Medical University. After several rounds of prototype verification, the structure, man-machine and interaction are further optimized according to the existing problems, which provides a more convenient and efficient surgical auxiliary machine system for single-person laparoscopic surgeons.

The Red Dot Design Award won by the team from School of Arts is not only the recognition of the team's design ability and innovative spirit, but also the affirmation of the practical teaching achievements of Chongqing University. By combining professional knowledge in art design and science and technology, the team is able to approach complex problems encountered in design from multiple perspectives, creating products that are both aesthetically pleasing and practical, providing new perspectives and solutions for solving real-world problems. Winning the Red Dot Design Award also means that the team's achievements have not only been recognized in China, but also reached international standards.
